Visiting MissChickpea’s Cafetal in San Antonio for the first time was an eye-opening experience for me. As someone who had never tried vegan food before, I was skeptical about how satisfying it could be. However, this visit completely changed my perspective, and I was genuinely mind-blown by how delicious everything was. I started with the ham and cheese croissant, which featured grilled vegan ham, lettuce, and a black pepper veganaise. The flavor and texture of the vegan ham were so convincing that I had to remind myself it wasn’t real ham. In fact, I’d go as far as to say it tasted better than real ham, which is something I never thought I’d say. Next up was the El Cubano, a masterpiece made with People’s vegan ham and shredded eggplant “Barbacoa.” The smokiness and richness of the dish had me questioning how it was possible to achieve such authentic meaty flavors without any meat. It was a delightful surprise that had me savoring every bite. To top it all off, I enjoyed a vanilla matcha latte, which was as smooth and flavorful as one could hope for. The balance of vanilla and matcha was perfect, making for a refreshing end to an outstanding meal. I’m awarding MissChickpea’s Cafetal a well-deserved 5 stars for not only exceeding my expectations but also for making me seriously consider adopting a vegan lifestyle. The culinary creativity and ability to mimic traditional meat flavors using plant-based ingredients are nothing short of impressive. If you’re curious about vegan cuisine or are already a fan, I highly recommend a visit. You won’t be disappointed.

If your looking for a sweet vegan dessert this is the spot. I bought a berry mixed filled donut with the purple and white glaze and a raspberry pop tart. The pop tart was empty inside. It was more of a thick crust if your wanting more bread with a coffee or something. It was good but not for me. The mixed jelly filled donut was to die for. It was sweet but not too sweet and huge. I took a bite a was full with a lot left over. The ladies were nice at the register. It would have been nice if they asked have I been there before or perhaps what am I looking for because I felt a little lost walking in because the menu had no pictures and I never been here before so I have no idea what I'm ordering, I can read but I'm a picture person lol. I always just look at the reviews anyways so it wasn't a big deal. Will be back though 😊

Delicious little gem that was only 3 minutes from my hotel!!! What a find! Had the El Cubano...it was a delicious finger licking mess...a lemon blueberry "pop tart" & cinnamon donut....all scrumptious! I would love to try everything they offer!!

Overall, I really loved the variety of items available and I will be back to try some things that I haven’t tried yet. I ordered a bunch of different things so that I could taste around the menu, but I barely scratched the surface on what they offer. Of everything that I tried, I would get the Texas sheet cake and the chocolate croissant again for sure. Those two were both great. I didn’t have either on the same day that I bought the other items and they still tasted as amazing as if they had been made that day. I heated the croissant in my oven with a bowl of water so it wouldn’t dry out and you couldn’t tell the difference between this and a regular croissant. I ate the sheet cake cold out of the fridge and it was phenomenal dense and well flavored, not too sweet but very satisfying. The kolaches that I ordered were a last minute decision when I picked up my pastries. I’m glad I tried them, especially because they are HUGE kolaches. I’ll be trying their other flavors because I wasn’t blown away by the fillings but I was blown away by the texture and how well made they were. The filing wasn’t bad, I just wanted a little more flavor and I didn’t think the jalapeño sausage kolache was spicy at all and wanted more spice there. The same is true for their cupcakes, I really liked the cakes but didn’t particularly enjoy the ones I tried all that much, which is more about me than their flavors. They were as good, if not better then the big cupcake places including H‑E‑B and Sam’s so swapping these for some other places is something I will do. I felt like the oatmeal creme pie was too sweet and could be balanced with a cookie with a little more flavor and i thought the maple pecan donut would be better balanced with a little more salt but otherwise these were good too. I will definitely be back to try other donuts, because the texture on the donut was amazing both the day I got it and the next day when I ate the other half for breakfast.

I purchased their Veggie Pot Pie and Garlic Butter Rolls for my family's Thanksgiving dinner to offer them some vegan options and they were soooooo good!! Even the nonvegans loved them and insisted the rolls were better than the Aloha nonvegan rolls!
