A truly phenomenal charity. I have worked with animal shelters for many years and could not be more pleased with how well this sanctuary helps animals in need. We spent a morning volunteering with the cats. They gave us a list of buildings to choose from in which cats reside. Each building had a different theme: one building with cats with one condition, another for cats with another different condition, one for more feral cats, and so forth. We picked our building and volunteered. We were happy to learn that many of the cats that are treated here for specific conditions do become adoptable, and all the cats are treated phenomenally well. And some cats at the sanctuary are not under treatment for anything and are simply waiting for their forever home. We also took an afternoon tour with the sanctuary, and gave them a donation. By giving a donation we were given a complimentary subscription to their magazine. One thing we didn’t get around to doing was the sleepovers, you can take an animal with you to stay the night with you where you are staying. If you are from out of town, simply make sure you are staying at a pet friendly hotel, or the sanctuary even offers some lodgings nearby. Every worker here is passionate about the quality care of the animals. Best Friends has also expanded into many states with new facilities, and they keep detailed stats in their front office on their beneficent work in each state. So come here to volunteer, tour the facility, give a donation, pick up a pet for a sleepover, or adopt your new companion. Or some combination of the above. It’ll be one of the best experiences you’ve had.

My family and I recently spent a week in the cute + tiny town of Kanab as a central hub for visiting Zion, Bryce, and the Grand Canyon North Rim. As it turns out, this local sanctuary is the largest in the country and offers a variety of free tours daily (you have to reserve your spot online). I booked the Grand Tour which is 1.5 hours + included being driven around in a shuttle van with about 10 other passengers. It was long but our tour guide pointed out many walking/hiking trails open to the public on this property so that was nice. I thought there would be more animal interactions but that wasn’t the case. There were two stops — one at the sick kitten lounge and another to visit the pigs. A couple of visitors quickly pet the pigs but that was about it. 🐷🐖 In any case, it’s such wonderful work they do here — definitely worth a visit and donating or buying something from the shop!

This place is so amazing. They do so much to help the animals! You can eat lunch for $5 and they have amazing gift shops. You can volunteer your time to help and love on the furbabies. The scenic views are great too. Definitely need to put this on your list of places to visit. Don't forget you can adopt from here as well.

This place is amazing. If I lived in Kanab, I would definitely have to become a volunteer. There are so many stops that leave you feeling peaceful. Angels Rest brought tears to my husband's eyes, and I just wanted to sit with my eyes closed and imagine that the chimes sounding off when a breeze blew through was the animal spirits letting me know they were happy and carefree.
